Phoebe Gill - British Olympic Athlete

We're delighted that the UK's youngest track and field athlete on the British Olympic Team in more than 40 years, and St Albans' very own Olympic athlete, will be joining us on the day to join in the fun and present the winners awards. Phoebe competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics at just 17 years old in the 800 metres event.

Phoebe said... 'As a young person from the St Albans area I am delighted to be supporting the Great St Albans Challenge in support of Youth Talk, a St Alban's charity that provides a safe and confidential space for local young people to talk and share.

'Witnessing the effects of lockdown on friends and peers, unstable home environments, the hormonal changes that can influence how we think and feel about ourselves, together with the added pressures of academic achievement and expectations not to mention the stresses of social media fuelled my interest in mental wellbeing.

'As an athlete, I also realised how much of an impact mindset plays on my own performance, so having someone to talk through fears and anxiety is paramount.

'The services that Youth Talk offers to local young people rely so much on the support of the local community so it's good to be supporting this local event.

'The Great St Albans Challenge will be a really exciting, interesting and important afternoon for all ages and I'm really looking forward to joining in the fun.

'See you there!'

We're delighted that Daisy will be joining us on the day to share in the fun too!

Annie Brewster - High Sheriff of Hertfordshire

We're delighted that Annie will be 'out and about' in St Albans as part of the Great St Albans Challenge waiting for teams to 'Find the Sheriff'!

Annie was the first female Mayor of St Albans and the first female Chair of Hertfordshire County Council to take on the historic position of High Sheriff of Hertfordshire, that originated under the reign of King Edgar (959-975).

Annie is a former international athlete and has lived in in Hertfordshire all her life and has served her community in Wheathampstead and the county for over 17 years, as a Parish, District and County Councillor.

Annie said... 'I cannot wait to join in, what promises to be, a fabulous and fun city event that combines all my High Sheriff themes including celebrating the historical gems in our county and keeping active to benefit our physical and mental health. See you there!'
